Do you want your agency newsletter to be written by a college English major, or by another insurance agent who knows what clients are asking, and understands the need for agents to protect themselves from costly E&O claims? "If you communicate effectively on a regular basis to your clients, your agency can weather the disruptions in the marketplace that are created by the media, politicians, or your company's rate increases, payment plan changes, and coverage restrictions. It's all about communication" advises Ken.

After years of working in underwriting and marketing for a large regional insurance company, Ken purchased an independent insurance agency that was originally founded in 1935. Although this agency had a good reputation, business was falling off the books. Ken's past experience, working with hundreds of agencies, had proven that lack of communication was a major cause of losing clients. Many clients felt unappreciated because the only time they heard from the agency was when they received a premium notice.

Realizing that regularly speaking with over 1,500 clients wasn't possible, Ken scoured the market for an effective newsletter that could be used to "have conversation" with his customers, and give them something that would truly set the agency apart from its' competitors. The agency looked at the newsletters available in the marketplace at the time. Ken was just not willing to stake the agency's reputation on any of the products found. Ken used his experience and education in insurance and developed his own newsletter.

In a short time, many of Ken's friends and agency acquaintances started using this newsletter and ultimately encouraged the start of Agent's Choice Newsletters, llc. With the help of this effective communication tool Ken improved the agency's retention rate to nearly 95%. Using the newsletter as one of his marketing tools, Ken tripled the agency's premium volume in less than ten years in a town of less than eight thousand.
